Eagle Quill writing center Grand Opening
By Jazlynn J. Feliciano
On January 22, 2024, the start of semester two brought the opening of Comp Sci High's very own writing center. A place where students and staff can get help with their writing needs. From essays to podcasts and even writing services for other teachers, the writing center provides many writing services for the entire Comp Sci community.
Mr. Giasullo, the writing center advisor said he saw a desperate need for a space for students to get with their writing. “ I saw a decline in students' writing ability in the last year.”
The writing center has truly proven it’s worth helping students with all their assignments. Jaidelys Colon, a student at Comp Sci High, found success after meeting with a writing center tutor. “I got an 80 on my essay. The person helping me was very nice and explained things well,” she said.
The writing center is a community that has been helpful for everyone, including its own staff members. Samira Chambers, a writing center tutor, stated “I learned to be more outspoken and a greater communicator, learning to talk to people on all different levels.” Another staff member Jose Del Valle stated “It’s a resource for anyone who needs help, and is incredibly useful. It helped me build connections with my peers and management skills.”
Because the writing center has proven to be helpful. Mr. Giasullo encourages “All students or even staff to visit the writing center to see how we can help improve their writing. We really think you will see a difference in your writing.” You can schedule an appointment with the writing center by visiting eaglequill.org or visiting room 324 block 4 on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays.
