THE SHOW MUST GO ON
BY SAMIRA CHAMBERS
As we near the end of the school year, traditions are as important as ever. Graduation, student-led carnival, senior skip day, prom, pranks galore. They add to the school’s culture. Though there is one tradition that seems to be up in the air. The school Musical! This year's musical was presented as The Wiz, headed by Comp Sci faculty, Bryan Swormstedt and Scott Stewart.
The problem with the musical is Swormstedt was left on the big stage by himself. Stewart was absent for an extended period of time, which forced Swormstedt to try to organize the musical himself. This was a threat to the whole production, which begged the question, “What’s happening with the musical?” To add to the problem, there was little to no communication between Stewart and Swormstedt. However, Swormstedt still wanted to put on something grand. It was just going to have to be on different terms.
Time allotted no regular stage production. Swormstedt made it clear that along with other mishaps, the best course of action was to let the rights for The Wiz fall through. Because of Swormstedt’s skills in film, he made the decision to move the musical from the big stage to the big screen.
The film will be created entirely by the students using the free rights of The Wizard of Oz, which he is allowed to alter as much as he’d like. There is no telling what they will create. The film also comes with a pivoting pro. Instead of traveling all the way to Enfield to view the film, there is a chance that the film will show in Hartford, so more people are able to watch, though it is unconfirmed.
Though this tradition looks a little different from every other year, everyone involved is working hard to make it happen.
